Pembrokeshire with a Pram – Beaches
As a Mum of two under two getting down on to a beach can be a bit of a mission! Especially when juggling buckets and spades, nappy bag, towels, snacks, drinks… the list goes on!
I have found that taking the pram can help, although the last thing I want to be doing is hauling that, along with everything else, over rocks or up steps. So here are my top five buggy friendly beaches:
1. Manorbier
Unlike a lot of obviously buggy accessible beaches, Manorbier, remain unspoilt and with very few buildings around the beach, unless you count the beautiful castle that is. From the carpark (where there are baby changing facilities) it is an easy stroll along the bottom path (the top path is a bit more tricky) to the beach.
2. Saundersfoot
A very different feel to Manorbier but sometimes you want the hustle and convenience of shops, bars and cafes. You can very easily push the pram around the town and along the beachfront. I like to go round the harbour walls and at the far end there is a ramp down which gets you down on to the beach and you can continue your walk with a pram along the hard sand.
3. Little Haven
Such a sweet village and having spent childhood holidays here I have a soft spot for Little Haven. It has a couple of pubs, a shop selling ice-cream, Lobster and Môr (delicious lobster rolls) and a beautiful beach; what more could you want? The short walk out to the headland is paved and very easy with a buggy and provides some spectacular views – we walk up there to eat our ice-creams!
4. Freshwater West
A real rugged beach with rock pools, steep sand dunes and vast stretches of beach providing lots of entertainment for little ones (just avoid the sea here it is treacherous). There is a path from the road down to the beach (tip: grab a crab roll from Cafe Môr before you head down), the path stops short of the sand so there is a bit of a haul over the pebbles but it is quite doable especially if there are two of you. Once on the beach there is plenty of hard sand to push the buggy along and find a spot to sit and enjoy your delicious crab roll.
5. Tenby
Now a word of warning, it can be extremely busy in the height of Summer but the beaches and the town are spectacular and worth facing the crowds for. Once inside the town walls you can walk round the town with ease, there are two beaches and both have paved paths or pavements around them and there is a path up to the headland in between them, mega easy with a pram. There are slip ways and ramps down on to the beaches although the sand is soft so more tricky with a buggy but you can get down on to the beach and find a spot to set up camp.
